Woo Hoo!!! The kids went back to school today. :) I mean "Oh darn, the kids went back to school today." ;)

And it was not easy.  One made it right on time, one was running up to the bus without shoes and lost her socks in the process, and the last one barely made it.  Thank goodness out in the country our bus drivers are willing to wait.  And so I skipped back into the house.  Happy Back to SchoolPhoto

Jack's New Food Choices

In the title my original thought was to put diet, but a 6 year old shouldn't have or be on a diet.  Jack has new food choices that he has to make to help keep his tummy from flaring.  After a very scary visit to the ER in September and a couple of invasive tests, Jack has been diagnosed with Colitis, with signs of Crohns.  Not a usual diagnosis for a 6 year old boy.  The diagnosis is probably a result of hereditary genes.  But this little boy has adapted quite well.  The doctor recommended a diet free of milk, yogurt and ice cream and cheese in moderation.  Now the ice cream part was the hardest, everyone loves ice cream, Jack certainly does.  His doctor recommended some Cuties ice cream sandwiches, which he really enjoyed.  At first we thought "oh no this is such a big lifestyle change", but honestly with Jack's good spirit and positive disposition it has been a lot easier than we imagined.  Jack took to Plain Soy milk after a taste test of Almond milk, Rice milk, Vanilla Soy Milk.  New Years Eve I made onion dip and spinach dip for snacks for our family night, Jack had his own with Tofutti Sour Cream.  HE LIKED IT!!! What a relief.  I also found Go Veggie Cream Cheese for is raisin/cinnamon bagel.  And guess what?  HE LIKED IT!!!  Thank you Whole Foods(I'm sure other health food stores have these items also) for having food items for those with restricted food choices.  We will be on a constant watch of what Jack is eating but it really is just a lifestyle change, and with that hopefully we can keep his Colitis at bay.

First Day of School

Well the 2010-2011 School Year has started. Both kids are happy with their teachers. So we are hoping for a good year. Something new this year, the kids are riding the bus. Since we moved, we are in bus territory, which is just wonderful. The bus picks them up in the morning and off they go. Surprisingly they both want to ride the bus home, which is also very nice.
Max is in 6th grade this year(WOW, time goes by) and Emily is in 3rd grade. Jack will be going to preschool, but preschool doesn't start till after Labor Day.
